You have never met a person who didn't have a need for Jesus? In fact many times in my life I'm sure I went weeks or months without even thinking twice about Jesus. During anyone of those times in life you asked me whether I believed in Jesus or whether I was a Christian, I'm sure I would have told you I was.
I suppose you could have called me an "Arm Chair Christian." Just like their are Arm Chair Quarterbacks.
So if you have a Bible in your house, does that make you a Christian? It's not real funny but several weeks ago I was visiting a neighbor who I knew was having health issues. Before I left his house I asked him about his relationship with Jesus. His response was, "I go to church, I like that Pastor out there at that church."
I said, "That's good, but what about your personal relationship with Jesus?" I'm sorry to say that I could see that he really didn't like my response. I guess another term we could use for this is being a "Closet Christian." I have to tell you that this exactly what I was for years. I have to tell you that I am so glad that many people prayed for me for many years. I am also very fortunate that Christ did not return during those times in my life.
I feel that we as Christians have a duty to tell others what Christ has done for us. How he saved us from the wretched sin filled lives we were leading. Witnesses to his Glory and Grace and maybe most importantly the Hope that we have in Jesus. I'm reminded of the old Hymn that says, "My hope is built on nothing less that Jesus Christ and righteousness."
My prayer for you this week:
Lord Jesus, allow us to be that light that shines into a dark and gloomy world. Allow us to be so full of the spirit that we do not shrink back when we have the opportunity to share Jesus with others. Quicken our spirits to be aware of those around us that need the gospel. That we will through your power share the truth with others. Yes, there are lots of distractions in this world. To many to name. But Lord do not allow us to be distracted from your printed word and the responsibility that we have as Christians to share your hope and your love with others that we come into contact with this week. Lord Jesus remind me that nothing else is more important that sharing you with others. In your precious Holy Name Jesus.
Amen
