When witnessing to others I am often asked, “If there is a God why does he allow the things like famine, poverty, rape and murder to take place?””
These statements are generally followed by, “If there was a God these things would not take place.”
I find it interesting that every excuse or reason comes back or appears to come back to the same conclusion. That is, “I want to do what I want to do. I don’t care nor do I believe that God really exists.”
Every time I hear this I have know choice but to feel compassion for these people, to love them and pray for them.
I think at one time or another in life we have all asked ourselves the same question, or made the same comments. At least I know I have.
You see part of the problem with human nature is that we want things to be our way. We want to live as though there are no consequences for our behavior. We want to believe that we are normal. We want to become our own moral compass. Then we go about finding people who agree with our beliefs, so that we can justify our sinful actions.
So what does scripture have to say about sin and how we got to where we are in today’s world?
In Romans Chapter 1: 24-25 this subject is addressed so obviously that it would be difficult to miss. (24) God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. (25) They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator- who is forever praised. Amen.
I would like to encourage you to read the rest of the chapter. But I’d like to focus on the part that says, “They exchanged the truth for a lie.”
So the start of the inevitable downward spiral. They reject God. They make up their own ideas about what God should be. Then they fall headlong into sin. Eventually and I might add quickly, encourage others to hate God and encourage others to do the same.
When people reject God, he allows them to live as they choose. They then get to experience those natural consequences of sin. However dreadful. Is there a path of escape?
Of course. But once you reject Christ, Satan will do everything to convince you that you’ve gone too far and that there is no escape. Again a lie instead of the truth.
My prayer for you this week.
Lord allow us to always seek the truth. Cause us to spend time seeking you. Cause our spirits to be stirred by your word. Cause us to spend time in your word. Reveal yourself to us and especially to the lost. Cause us to pray for those who are lost, that they may come to find you. Allow us to take the time to witness to others. To have compassion on those who are lost Lord. Lord Jesus thank you for sharing your Holy word the Bible with us. In your Holy precious name.
