Compassion...Forget it. I have enough to do already.

com-pas-sion (kum-pash-en) The deep feeling of sharing the suffering of another, together with the inclination to give aid or support or to show mercy.

He is the source of every mercy and the God who comforts us. He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When others are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort that God has given us.  (NIV 2 Corinthians 1:3-4)

In our busy worlds I think we all tend to overlook this particular action. It has in many peoples lives become just a word and not an action. Oh yes, we think we are compassionate but how do we practice this particular art? I'm afraid that I to have too in many cases fallen way short on practicing this particular attribute.
A person in your life may express a need or concern and we respond with something like, "Oh I'm sorry to hear that." Or maybe something like, "I'll pray for you." But do we really get to the heart of the matter? Do we really care?

I often think about Christ on the Cross. Looking at scripture, I'm often reminded of who God is and am reminded that he cares about us and loves us. So what can I do today to make a difference? How can I practice compassion? Start with something simple. Here's my suggestion. Today when you walk through that store or have any interaction with anyone ask yourself a simple question, "How does Christ see this person."

My Prayer Today:

Lord Jesus, Thank you for having so much compassion for us that you were willing to give your earthly life in order to redeem us from our sin. As we move through our day Lord allow us to see the people that we come into contact with the same way you see them Lord. Allow us to truly practice being compassionate toward our fellow man. Allow us to make a difference in the lives of those we come into contact with. Lord I am compassionate about serving you. Empower and embolden me to witness about you and what you have done for me. Amen.

Hebrews 2:14-18
14 Inasmuch then as the children have partaken of flesh and blood, He Himself likewise shared in the same, that through death He might destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the devil, 15 and release those who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage. 16 For indeed He does not give aid to angels, but He does give aid to the seed of Abraham. 17 Therefore, in all things He had to be made like His brethren, that He might be a merciful and faithful High Priest in things pertaining to God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people. 18 For in that He Himself has suffered, being tempted, He is able to aid those who are tempted.
